Informational Genre: Visual Depiction of Mango Street

The link below leads to presentation of a visual interpretation of a map of the Mango Street area. Drawing on textual clues, the relationship between the spaces is meant to provide the viewer with a sense of how the events, people, and themes in Mango Street are connected. Paired with this map is statistical data that connects The House on Mango Street with the lived experiences of Latinx people in America today. The juxtaposition of Cisneros's depictions of the fictional Mango Street alongside Pew Research statistics from current issues within the Latinx community emphasizes the consistency of fictional and real-life manifestations of injustice as well as provides more grounded context for the cultural elements that contribute to Esperanza's identity.
